Functions
Reds Atlas serves the needs of the different departments within an airport, each department
accomplishing a different task related to airport management. In the Red Atlas airport management
software package these departmental functions are defined by four different user roles. Each user
is provided with a unique log-in username and password, and permissions for accessing these roles
can be set for each user.
The four main user roles are:
Air Traffic Control
Red Atlas ATC users can book aircraft in to land, log landings, and when taking off can log
whether the flight is a circuit (staying in close proximity of the airport), local (returning
back to the airport) or away (due to land at another destination). All inbound aircraft can be
entered in to the system by either aircraft registration or call-sign, and if the aircraft is
already known (i.e. it has landed at the airport before) it will display previous information
such as aircraft type, number of engines and last know movement. ATC users can check and accept
this information or modify it if need be. Alternatively if the aircraft is unknown to the system
then the ATC users can enter the required details, which can then be confirmed upon landing.
Helicopters are displayed as a different colour to fixed-wing aircraft, and late aircraft can be
easily identified.
Reporting Point Office
The RPO user role is intended for use by airport staff who accept payments for landings and other
movements which incur a charge (unless the aircraft has a home-based account with the airport) as
well as the sale of aviation fuel, oil and similar. At your airport this may be members of the
fire crew, briefing room or reception staff. Movements can also be purchased on credit. Stock
level reporting, fuel tank and bowser readings and fuel sampling (sediment testing) can also be
recorded within Red Atlas RPO.
Manager
The Red Atlas Manager user role features powerful reporting tools so that revenue, aircraft
movements, airport activity and sales figures can easily be analysed. These reports can be viewed
within Red Atlas and printed to PDF (for saving) or to paper (if a hard-copy is required), or
alternatively the reports can also be exported to email, Microsoft Word, Excel or other
applications.
These features will allow airport and operation managers to clearly identify factors such as
sales trends and busy times of the day / week / year, which will then allow them to make more
informed decisions based upon these reports. For example; if when using the Red Atlas Manager
functions it can be seen that a lot aircraft movements occur between 10.30 and 14.00 increasing
the workload on ATC, briefing room and fire crew staff, a discount could be offered as an
incentive for aircraft which land between 9.00 and 10.30.
Accounts
Red Atlas Accounts will allow accounts and admin users to issue invoices for both account-based
customers and cash bills, as well as for non-aviation related charges such as office rent, water,
electricity and the hire of equipment or services such as conference rooms. Red Atlas Accounts
users will be able to view existing charges against accounts throughout the month – searching by
account number, name, aircraft registration or call-sign – and can modify account details and
charge rates.
Red Atlas Accounts will interface with other industry-standard accounting systems.
As well as the four main user roles in Red Atlas that are used by different departments within
an airport, there are also some features that do not require user input. These are:
Arrivals / Departures board
This is a web-based application that will extract the aircraft registration, departure /
destination airport and estimated time of landing / take-off and display it on a monitor or
multiple monitors within the airport.
AFTN link capability
Some airports employ AFTN systems which receive VFR and IFR flight-plans from departure airports,
Heathrow Control (if they have been informed of the flight-plan by phone call or as flight-plan
submitted on the CAA website), or if a pilot or aircraft owner is a registered NATS AFPEx user
and is permitted to file a flight-plan on the AFTN system directly.
Where airports employ an AFTN system an interface between this and Red Atlas ATC is possible,
following consultation.
Live flight info website feed capability
As well as extracting flight information to display on arrivals / departures boards in the
airport, it is also possible to extract this information to a file on your web-server. This can
be pulled into a page on your airport website, allowing users of your website to look up flight
times.
